Hanuma Vihari who batted through the final day of the Sydney Test match is out of the final match at Brisbane. According to a PTI report, Vihari was taken for multiple scans after the match and the all-rounder is set to miss the Brisbane Test match. “The extent of Vihari’s tear can only be ascertained after the scan reports come through. But even if it’s a grade 1 tear, he is out for at least four weeks and then will need some rehabilitation time. So it’s not only Brisbane Test but also, he won’t be a part of England Tests at home,” a BCCI source told PTI on Monday.
Fortunately, Vihari’s service will not be missed much against England in the home series. However, he will be required on the seaming tracks in England soon. As far as Vihari’s replacement is concerned, the team will either have to play Wriddhiman Saha as a wicketkeeper and Rishabh Pant purely as a batsman or utilize Mayank Agarwal as a middle-order batsman.
Jasprit Bumrah’s injury comes as another big blow for the visiting side Down Under. Bumrah will not play the fourth Test match as the Indian team management is not keen to take any risk with the leading pacer. Bumrah has abdominal pain which could be a tear. Bumrah is the third Indian pacer after
Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav, to face injury during this series. A BCCI source also confirmed the same and told PTI, “Jasprit Bumrah suffered an abdominal strain while fielding in Sydney. He is going to sit out of the Brisbane Test but is expected to be available against England.” India’s pace reserves include Shardul Thakur and T Natarajan who had been included in the squad ahead of the Sydney Test.
There is a concern over Agarwal as well as he suffered a blow during training. Whether he can participate in the final Test or not, the scan reports will tell.
