Ibrahim Zadran, the opening batsman for Afghanistan, scored a magnificent century (162 runs) against Sri Lanka in the third and final ODI, becoming the nation's top individual scorer in the 50-over format on Wednesday.

Zadran scored 162 runs in just 138 balls, including 15 fours and 4 sixes. The player who started the game reached his hundred in the 39th over, scoring 58 runs in the next 38 balls to help his team reach 313.

The opening player surpassed Mohammad Shahzad's unbeaten 131 against Zimbabwe in 2015 as the highest individual score by an Afghanistan player in ODIs.

Zadran is Afghanistan's joint-third-highest ODI century-maker with three hundreds already in just eight innings. The 20-year-old has amassed 433 runs in 8 ODIs while batting at a 61.85 average and turning each of his scores of fifty or more into hundreds. His last three ODI hundreds have come in his last five.

With the victory in the first ODI of this series, Afghanistan had already secured their spot in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.
