In the tournament opener, hosts Oman registered a comfortable 10-wicket victory over Papua New Guinea. They chased down 130 with 38 balls and all 10 wickets to spare. Zeeshan Maqsood (4-20) was adjudged Player of the Match. The win has helped Oman reach the top of the points table.
Later in the evening, Safyaan Sharif defended 25 in the last over to help Scotland stun Bangladesh by six runs. A 51-run partnership between Chris Greaves and Mark Watt lifted Scotland after they were left reeling at 53/6. Scotland is at second place.
