Ravichandran Ashwin became the second Indian bowler to claim 450 Test wickets on Thursday, when he dismissed Australia's Alex Carey on the first day of the first Test against Australia here.

Ashwin claimed his 450th Test wicket when the Australian keeper was bottom-edged into the stumps by a delivery that stayed low after landing on length.

Ashwin took 450 wickets in 167 innings across 89 Tests. He has taken five or more wickets in an innings 30 times and ten wickets in a match seven times.

The 36-year-old Tamil Nadu right-arm off-break bowler has best innings figures of 7-59 and match figures of 13-140.

Ashwin surpassed Kapil Dev's 434 wickets to become India's second most successful bowler in the longest format.

With 619 wickets in 132 Tests, Anil Kumble is India's most successful Test bowler.

Ashwin also became the ninth bowler in Test cricket history to claim 450 wickets or more.

Muttiah Muralitharan (800 wkts) of Sri Lanka, Shane Warne (708) of Australia, Jimmy Anderson (675) of England, Kumble, Stuart Broad (566) of England, Glenn McGrath (563) of Australia, Courtney Walsh (519) of West Indies, and Nathan Lyon (460) of Australia all have more Test wickets than Ashwin.

Ashwin added one more wicket to his tally on Thursday when he claimed the wicket of Australia skipper Pat Cummins in the ongoing Nagpur Test.
