According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), India will host the 2025 Women's World Cup.
Aside from India, Bangladesh and England will host the T20 World Cups in 2024 and 2026, respectively, while Sri Lanka will host the first Women's Champions Trophy in 2027, assuming they qualify for the competition.
On Tuesday in Birmingham, the final day of the world cricket body's annual conference, the ICC Board approved the locations for the four major women's international tournaments that are a part of the ICC's Future Tours Programme's upcoming cycle.
According to the ICC, the hosts were chosen through a "competitive bidding procedure," and each bid was evaluated by the board subcommittee, which included Clare Connor, Sourav Ganguly, Ricky Skerritt, and Martin Snedden as its head.
"We are pleased to announce that Bangladesh, India, England, and Sri Lanka will compete in ICC women's white ball events. Taking these events to some of our sport's greatest markets gives us a fantastic opportunity to accomplish that and enhance its connection with cricket's one billion plus fans, which is one of the ICC's strategic priorities "Greg Barclay, the head of the ICC, made a statement.
In 2025, India will host the Women's ODI World Cup for the sixth time. This will be the country's first major women's competition since the T20 World Cup ran concurrently with the men's competition in 2016. With eight participating clubs and a total of 31 matches, the 2025 edition is anticipated to be identical to the 2022 edition.
According to BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, India's selection to host the main event in 2025 is a step in the right direction for the growth of women's cricket.
"The 2013 50-over women's World Cup was held in India, and the game has changed dramatically since then. This is a positive step because women's cricket is becoming increasingly popular. The BCCI will collaborate closely with the ICC and adhere to all specifications ""Ganguly" stated.
Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, stated that the organisation "would leave no stone unturned to make it a memorable event" and that they anticipate the ICC competition to further increase the popularity of the game.
"Starting at the grassroots level, we are implementing a number of initiatives to increase the sport's reputation, and hosting the World Cup will help the sport get even more traction in the nation. The BCCI is still dedicated to supporting women's cricket in India. We have the necessary infrastructure in place, and I am convinced that this World Cup will be a great success "Shah remarked.
For the first time since 2009, the Women's T20 World Cup will be held in England.
According to ECB Interim CEO Clare Connor, "We witnessed how hosting the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup captivated people's imagination back in 2017 and I'll never forget witnessing Heather Knight take the trophy on that magnificent day at a sold-out Lord's."
"Since then, the number of girls picking up bats through All Stars and Dynamos, joining clubs, and being able to advance on a road to the highest levels of performance has increased dramatically. Currently, the Women's Euros are having a beneficial effect on football. Hosting this international cricket event will provide us with yet another fantastic opportunity to encourage more girls to pick up a bat and ball " she added.
The Women's T20 World Cup will be held in Bangladesh for the second time.
As per ICC, the inaugural edition of the Women's ICC Champions Trophy, set to be held by Sri Lanka, will be based on the T20 format. It will be held in February 2026, with six teams competing for the trophy across 16 matches.
