Indian batting coach Vikram Rathour commended veteran cricketer Ajinkya Rahane for his impressive return to form, citing his confident style in the middle as the defining characteristic of his resurgence. Rathour emphasized that the Indian team will heavily rely on Rahane to maintain his good form during their upcoming tour of South Africa later this year.
In the recently concluded World Test Championship final against Australia in London, Rahane's contributions of 89 and 46 were the only bright spots for the Indian team. Despite the loss, Rahane's stellar performances garnered attention and earned him praise.
The 35-year-old cricketer, however, faced a setback in the first Test against West Indies. Nevertheless, he remains determined to make amends in the second game, scheduled to begin on July 20.
Rathour acknowledged Rahane's abilities, stating, "He played really well in the WTC final. He has always been a good player. He was dropped because of bad form. When it comes to technique, you constantly work on that, but what stood out for me was that he was much more calm in his approach."
Rahane's composure at the crease, along with his ability to play late and close to the body, impressed the batting coach since his comeback. Rathour highlighted that Rahane continues to display the same level of confidence and skill during practice sessions.
With the crucial tour of South Africa on the horizon, Rathour expressed confidence in Rahane's ability to perform under challenging conditions. He emphasized the need for a player like Rahane to excel in South Africa, a country known for its demanding pitches and testing bowling attacks.
As India prepares for the tough battles in South Africa, Rahane's solid presence in the middle-order will be crucial for the team's success. Fans and cricket enthusiasts eagerly await Rahane's performances in the upcoming series, hoping he will carry his confident form from the WTC final to the challenging conditions in South Africa.
