Chennai Super Kings registered their sixth victory of the Indian Premier League 2021 after defeating Mumbai Indians by 20 runs. By the end of the Powerplay, the CSK's scoreboard read 24/4. Faf du Plessis and Ambadi Rayudu walked back without scoring, and Ambati Rayudu got retired hurt on the third ball.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja then led the recovery, adding 81 runs for the fifth wicket. Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 88 to propel Chennai Super Kings to 156/6. In reply, Mumbai Indians could only manage 136. Deepak Chahar struck twice in his opening spell to push the opponents on backfoot. Saurabh Tiwary's half-century didn't really affect the balance of the game.

The Super Kings are now at the top of the points table. They have won six matches and lost two. With four wins and four losses, Mumbai is at fourth place. Sunrisers Hyderabad is at the bottom of the points table.
