The first double-header of the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) witnessed two eventful matches. First, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) comfortably defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 38 runs, riding on top efforts from two of the best in the format – Glenn Maxwell (78 in 49 balls) and AB de Villiers (76 not out in 34) in Chennai.

In the second match, Delhi Capitals (DC) chased down 196 runs against Punjab Kings (PBKS) with 10 balls to spare. Shikhar Dhawan was adjudged Player of the Match for the second time in IPL 2021 following his blistering 92-run knock, laced with 13 boundaries and two sixes, with a strike rate of 188.

Orange Cap

More than 750 runs have been scored in two matches on 18 April. Maxwell has been in sublime touch since the first match, scoring 176 runs in 3 matches, striking at 149. He acquired the Orange Cap during the course of the first match.
Dhawan usurped the top spot later in the evening. He has 186 runs in the same number of games, with a staggering strike rate of 163. Punjab captain KL Rahul, winner of last year’s Orange Cap (157) and Kolkata’s Nitish Rana (155) are at the third and fourth spots respectively.

Purple Cap

Not a memorable day for the bowlers as they picked up 20 wickets across four innings. However, Harshal Patel (4-0-17-2 against Kolkata) took a two-wicket lead over Rahul Chahar, the second name on the wickets chart. Delhi’s Avesh Khan (6) jumped to third place on the list.
