Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul has been hospitalised after complaining of severe abdominal pain last night. The franchise revealed this in a statement. Unresponsive to initial medication, he was immediately taken to the hospitals and has been diagnosed with acute appendicitis.

PBKS further stated that he will be required to undergo surgery to resolve the issue. Rahul will miss the upcoming games of the tournament. Mayank Agarwal is expected to lead them in his absence. Another option for Punjab is to go ahead with Chris Gayle, who led the team against RCB in the second innings when Rahul was absent.

Having amassed 331 runs from seven games, Rahul currently holds the Orange Cap in IPL 2021. He already has four half-centuries to his name. His scintillating knock against RCB led Punjab to their third victory of the season. He scored 91 not out in just 57 balls, with seven fours and five sixes, to guide his team to an imposing total. PBKS is positioned at No. 5 in the points table.

Punjab will be squaring off against Delhi Capitals in few hours at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In their last meeting which happened a few weeks ago, DC emerged victorious.
