All eight existing franchises have submitted their final list of retained players for the Indian Premier League 2022. As per the rules, franchises were allowed to retain a maximum of four players. The two new franchises – of Ahmedabad and Lucknow – can now select up to three players from the talent pool available.

Here is a the player-retention list for all franchise:

Delhi Capitals

Players retained: Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel, Anrich Nortje

Delhi are one of the three franchises to retain four players. As per ESPNCricinfo, they have released former captain Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan and Kagiso Rabada.

Chennai Super Kings

Players retained: Ravindra Jadeja, M.S. Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Moeen Ali

For Chennai, retaining Dhoni and Jadeja were straightforward decisions. For the remaining slots, they have retained Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali. Gaikwad was instrumental in CSK's triumph, while Moeen also played his part with both bat and ball. To maximise Moeen's prowess against spin, he was deployed in the middle-order, and did his job to perfection.

Mumbai Indians

Players retained: Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah

As per ESPNCricinfo, Mumbai have retained only Rohit and Bumrah. As per some reports, the Pandya brothers – Krunal and Hardik – are likely to join Ahmedabad.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Players retained: Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Mohammed Siraj

The retirement of A.B de Villiers has made things simpler for the RCB. Kohli, Siraj and Maxwell are the three players to be retained by the franchise.

Rajasthan Royals

Player retained: Sanju Samson

Rajasthan Royals have retained only Samson for the next edition of the Indian Premier League.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Player retained: Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy, Venkatesh Iyer

Narine, Russell, Chakravarthy, and Iyer are the four names to be retained by Kolkata. There was no place for Eoin Morgan, under whose captaincy the franchise reached the final of the IPL 2021.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Player retained: Kane Williamson

In a shocking move, Sunrisers Hyderabad have released Rashid Khan, as reported by ESPNCricinfo. There was no place for David Warner either, as they retained only Williamson for the upcoming season.
