The forthcoming mini-auction is expected to take place in the third week of December, hence the Indian Premier League (IPL) has asked the 10 teams to submit their list of retained players by November 15.

There is no such cap for the mini-auction leading up to IPL 2023, in contrast to the major auction last year, when two new franchises were added and the old clubs could keep a maximum of four players.

The teams will receive an additional Rs 5 crore during the upcoming mini-auction in addition to the money that was left over from the prior auction, making the total auction purse Rs 95 crore, according to a report on ESPNcricinfo.

Notably, Lucknow Super Giants had used up all of their funds after last year's auction, while Punjab Kings had the greatest balance remaining (Rs 3.45 crore). Following Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rs 1.55 crore), Rajasthan Royals (Rs 0.95 crore), and Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings had Rs 2.95 crore left over (Rs 0.45 crore).

Gujarat Titans, the defending champions, had Rs 0.15 crore left over, while Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Delhi Capitals each had Rs 0.10 crore.

Although franchises have smaller budgets, mini-auctions have resulted in some of the most expensive buys in previous seasons. Players like Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, and Cameron Green from Australia are some of the international players who are anticipated to draw the highest bids if they participate in the auction this year.

While other teams could release one or more of their overseas players to create vacancies and enhance their budgets, three clubs—CSK, DC, and LSG—bought only seven overseas players at the previous auction. As a result, they may be looking to fill the final position.

Six franchises in all brought in injury replacements: Matheesha Pathirana (CSK) for Adam Milne, Tristan Stubbs (MI) for Tymal Mills, Corbin Bosch (RR) for Nathan Coulter-Nile, Andrew Tye (LSG) for Mark Wood, Aaron Finch (KKR) for Alex Hales, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (GT) for Jason Roy during IPL 2022.

All of these teams must now select whether to keep the original player, the replacement player, or both—if the player restriction permits.
