According to some reports Mahendra Singh Dhoni has called for a press conference at 7pm on Thursday. A lot believe that in all likelihood, Dhoni will announce his retirement from international cricket at the meet.
India’s shocking exit from World Cup 2009 raised questions over Dhoni’s international cricket future. Since then a lot of fans and experts have demanded for the same time to time. But Dhoni did not give any hint about his retirement post the tournament and went for a two-month leave after to serve the Parachute Regiment of Indian Army.
On the day of India’s Test squad announcement against South Africa at home, a news has gone viral all over the internet. According to that, a press conference has been called by MS Dhoni at 7pm. The news has given birth to a lot of speculations regarding the legend’s retirement.
Earlier in the day, Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli took to social media and shared a photo from a match from 2016 World T20. He along with Dhoni took the responsibility to win the match for team against the mighty Australia and produced a match-winning partnership. Recalling the moment Virat wrote, “A game I can never forget. Special night. This man, made me run like in a fitness test @msdhoni”. Virat’s post already gave birth to speculations which raised more eyebrows after the press conference news.
Indian selectors already mentioned that Rishah Pant is being groomed for the future keeper of the team. But the BCCI has not confirmed any news regarding Dhoni’s retirement yet.
During the announcement of India’s squad for the West Indies tour, the chief selector MSK Prasad clarified, “Retirement is purely individual (decision). A legendary cricketer like Dhoni, he knows when to retire. What is the future course of action, that is in the hands of the selection committee. I don’t think we need to discuss anything more on it. First of all he is not available. Second, we have already started grooming youngsters.”
