India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the rest of the T20 series against Australia after having a concussion during the first T20I at Canberra.

An official statement made by the BCCI on Twitter read, “Ravindra Jadeja sustained a concussion after being hit on the left side of his forehead in the final over of the first innings of the first T20I against Australia in Canberra on 4th December 2020.”

“The diagnosis was confirmed based on a clinical assessment in the dressing room during the innings break by the BCCI Medical Team. Jadeja remains under observation and will be taken for further scans if required based on the assessment on Saturday morning. He will not take any further part in the ongoing T20I series.”

Jadeja who was in red hot form for India was the star with the bat for the visitors at the Manuka Oval as he scored 44 runs off 23 balls, which is his career-best T20I score. It was in the final over of the innings that Jadeja who was already struggling with his hamstring got hit on the helmet. He managed to finish the innings but was ruled out of the second innings by the doctor who reported that he had a concussion.

Yuzvendra Chahal was brought in his place as a concussion sub. The incident attracted fire from the Australia coach Justin Langer who was visibly disappointed when the match referee, David Boon was explaining to him the same in between the innings’. Chahal went on to take three wickets including that of in-form Aaron Finch and Steve Smith and inspired India to an 11 run win.

Jadeja had been in sensational form with the bat as he also scored 66 off 50 balls in the 3rd and final ODI in the same venue, adding 150 runs off 108 balls with Hardik Pandya to take India’s total to 302.

He will be replaced by Shardul Thakur, who was also sizzling with the ball in the final ODI as he took the highest wickets (3) for India in a 13 run win.
