Jaydev Unadkat, a left-arm pacer, was released from India's squad for the second Test of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia on Sunday in order to join the Saurashtra team for the Ranji Trophy 2022-23 final.

According to a BCCI press release, the All-India Senior Selection Committee decided to release Unadkat after consulting with the Indian team management.

"In consultation with the Indian team management, the All-India Senior Selection Committee has decided to release Jaydev Unadkat from India's squad for the 2nd Test of the Australia tour of India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy," the media release stated.

"Jaydev will now join the Saurashtra squad, which qualified for the Ranji Trophy final, which will be played against Bengal on February 16th at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata," the statement continued.

The 31-year-old pacer made his Test debut against Bangladesh last year and was named to India's squad for the first two Tests against Australia. The BCCI has not named a replacement for Unadkat in the squad, which includes pacers Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Umesh Yadav.

India took a 1-0 lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after defeating Australia in Nagpur by an innings and 132 runs.
