The inaugural player auction for the Women's Premier League (WPL) is set to take place on February 13 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. A total of 409 cricketers, including 246 Indians and 163 overseas players, will be up for auction, with 8 players coming from associate nations. Of these players, 202 are capped and 199 are uncapped.
Jemimah Rodrigues, India's middle-order batter, is one of the many players who have registered for the auction. With a base price of INR 50 lakh, she is excited to participate in the WPL Player Auction, which has been a long-held dream.
In a recent interview, Jemimah spoke about how she took up cricket simply for the love of the game and didn't even know about the existence of women's cricket at the time. She also talked about her idol and fellow Mumbaikar, Sachin Tendulkar, and how growing up in Mumbai, he was a household name.
Jemimah is currently with the Indian team for the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup, but is eagerly looking forward to the WPL Player Auction. She said, "We have always watched the men's IPL and how the auctions are going to be. I was already glued to it and it is very exciting. So, we always imagine what it would be like for us to experience that kind of a moment and have not experienced that yet because it has not yet happened. But when it happens, I'm sure it's going to be special because it's the first edition of the WPL."
The WPL Player Auction will be broadcasted live on JioCinema and Sports18 - 1. The excitement surrounding the event is palpable and fans cannot wait to see which players will be picked by which teams.
