After struggling to adapt to life in the Premier League during his first season with Newcastle United, Joelinton has revealed that he is now working hard every day to repay the fans for their unwavering support.
Joelinton, who joined the club for £40 million, became a crowd favourite at St James' Park after gradually working his way up and making 150 appearances for the club. He is now one of the first names on Eddie Howe's team sheet.
Speaking after the win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, Joelinton told Chronicle Live: "I want to work hard and make the fans happy. It was tough at the start but I kept going and never got my head down. That work is showing now. Hopefully we can keep it going."
During the game against Spurs, Joelinton scored his seventh goal of the season, and with seven matches left, he is looking to add to that tally. Despite being moved between midfield and attack frequently this season, the Brazilian has shown his worth and is hungry to contribute more.
"Champions League football is a dream. I have already played in it with Hoffenheim. With seven games to go, we know we have seven finals. It's not done of course," Joelinton said.
Newcastle's next match is against Everton, who are currently in a relegation dogfight. Joelinton knows the importance of the game and is focused on preparing for it.
"It is an important game tonight. Sunday was great but we had to prepare again. Everyone enjoyed it on Sunday. But now we focus on the next one. It's seven finals to play as I've said. We can only go one game at a time," he said.
Joelinton now has 21 goals in all competitions from his 150 appearances for Newcastle, but he is not satisfied yet. He wants to contribute more and help the team in any way possible.
"I'm very pleased but I wish I had more. I'm happy to help the team with the goals. I want to make more assists and add more goals to my game. I'm happy to help the team, everybody has been great and we're all on the same pages," Joelinton said.
Newcastle fans will be hoping to see Joelinton continue his good form and help the team achieve their goals in the remaining matches of the season.
