Jos Buttler, the captain of England's white-ball team, will not participate in The Hundred because of a calf injury he sustained last Thursday (August 18) against Southern Brave.
According to local media sources, Buttler, the competition's captain for Manchester Originals, will no longer participate in The Hundred.
According to a report on the Sky Sports website, Laurie Evans will now lead the team for the duration of the season beginning with the game against Birmingham Phoenix on Sunday.
Buttler is currently battling for fitness in time for England's upcoming white-ball series of Pakistan, which starts in a month. For the first time in 17 years, England will tour Pakistan and play seven Twenty20 Internationals in September and October.
On Thursday night, Buttler was hurt while fielding and pursuing the ball to the boundary during the game against the Southern Braves. The 31-year-old has been disqualified from the competition despite continuing to play and laughing off the injury by saying, "I'm simply getting a bit older."
Simon Katich, the originals' coach, reacted to the change by describing it as sad.
England cancelled their trip to Pakistan last year shortly after New Zealand did the same due to safety concerns.
Andre Russell, a West Indies pacer, will also stop competing in The Hundred. In order to compete in the Caribbean Premier League, Russell has come home.
Several other England white-ball players, including Chris Jordan, Jofra Archer, Tymal Mills, Mark Wood, and Chris Woakes, are also out of the Hundred due to injury, while Richard Gleeson has yet to play for the Originals due to a number of aches and pains, most notably a back spasm. Erin Burns, an Australian allrounder, has been signed by the Originals women's squad to replace Deandra Dottin, who left for the women's CPL.
