Virat Kohli will relinquish the captaincy of Royal Challengers Bangalore after IPL 2021. However, he will continue to play for the franchise. Two days ago, he had announced that he would step down from India T20I captaincy after the forthcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2021.

'This will be my last IPL as captain of RCB. I’ll continue to be an RCB player till I play my last IPL game. I thank all the RCB fans for believing in me and supporting me,' Kohli said in a video posted by RCB.

At Bangalore, Kohli succeeded Daniel Vettori as captain in 2013. The Royal Challengers reached the final of the competition in 2016, where they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Kohli has earlier cited 'workload management' as a primary reason to step down from the national captaincy in the shortest format of the game.

The Royal Challengers will be taking on Kolkata Knight Riders at Abu Dhabi, on 20 September. They are currently ranked third in the points table.
