The organisers stated on Tuesday that the rescheduled 2022 Lanka Premier League will take place from December 6 to 23.
Originally scheduled to take place in August, the third season of the LPL was postponed last month due to the island nation's deepening economic problems.
The LPL event will take place from December 6 to December 23, organiser Samantha Dodanwela told the media. IPG, the official promoter of the LPL, also tweeted a confirmation of the information.
The LPL sponsors believed that holding the tournament in August amid the crisis was not ideal, which is what caused the tournament's formal postponement in July, according to an ESPNcricinfo report. Later, for identical reasons, the Asia Cup, scheduled to start on August 27, was also moved from Sri Lanka to the UAE.
Regarding a hypothetical LPL re-draft, no decision has yet been made. According to reports, the tournament's organisers are debating between two options: either having a new draught or continuing with as many of the available players as feasible while just the positions occupied by any unavailable foreign players are being re-drafted.
The tournament will probably be wedged between a home Test series against the West Indies in November and an away ODI series against India in December-January, according to Sri Lanka's Future Tours Program.
A five-team competition called the LPL has been going on since 2020. Galle Gladiators finished as runners-up in each of the two previous seasons, while Jaffna Kings, originally the Stallions, won both. The other three teams are Colombo Stars, Kandy Falcons, and Dambulla Giants, each of which has seen ownership changes since the league's first season.
