Liverpool Football Club appears to be on the verge of securing the signing of Romeo Lavia from Southampton, potentially finalizing Jurgen Klopp's midfield acquisitions for the summer transfer window. While this move could bolster Liverpool's midfield options, it may also have a direct impact on the promising Spanish talent, Stefan Bajcetic, who enjoyed a breakthrough season last year.

Bajcetic was given an opportunity in Liverpool's starting line-up during the previous season when injuries took a toll on Klopp's midfield unit. The 18-year-old was thrust into the spotlight for his first Premier League start against Chelsea, where he impressed with a commanding display at the heart of midfield, earning widespread praise.

Following his debut, Bajcetic continued to feature prominently, starting in six of Liverpool's next eight Premier League matches and even making an appearance in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie against Real Madrid. His standout performance in the 2-0 victory over Everton earned him the man-of-the-match title, drawing praise from Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, who commended him on Instagram with fire and clapping emojis.

Notably, even Mohamed Salah, Liverpool's star forward, expressed his admiration for the young midfielder, referring to Bajcetic as the team's "best player" since his inclusion in the lineup.

Unfortunately, an adductor injury interrupted Bajcetic's progress in the side, but his emergence provided a much-needed boost for Liverpool in the league. With his return to training this week, the Spaniard is on the path to full recovery, hoping to resume his impactful performances when the new season begins.

However, Bajcetic could face stiff competition for the No. 6 role in Liverpool's midfield, even if Jordan Henderson and Fabinho depart. Reports indicate that Liverpool is preparing to make a formal approach for Southampton's Romeo Lavia, with personal terms reportedly already agreed upon.

Lavia, who stood out in a disappointing Southampton side last season, is highly regarded for his potential and is considered to have a bright future ahead. However, acquiring him won't come cheap, as Southampton is demanding a substantial fee of up to £50 million.

If Liverpool secures Lavia's services, the question arises of whether he would be brought in as the primary choice in the heart of midfield. Klopp, as the manager, will want a plethora of options at his disposal, and while Bajcetic may still receive opportunities, he could face a challenge for playing time if he becomes the second choice to Lavia.

Klopp will likely have to make tough decisions regarding his midfield selection when both players are fit. Despite being just a year older than Bajcetic, Lavia boasts more experience, having already represented Belgium on the international stage and becoming a regular presence in Southampton's squad during his first season at St Mary's.

With the likes of Curtis Jones, Thiago Alcantara, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Harvey Elliott also vying for starting positions in Liverpool's midfield, Klopp will have an abundance of talent to choose from. For Bajcetic, his progress may be further challenged if Liverpool makes more midfield signings in the ongoing transfer window.
