Mahmudullah, a veteran hitter, was left off Bangladesh's 15-man roster on Wednesday for the Men's T20 World Cup, which will be played in Australia from October 16 to November 13. Litton Das, a wicketkeeper and batter, is back in the 15-man team that will be captained by all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.
The Men's T20 World Cup roster also includes Hasan Mahmud, Yasir Ali, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Nurul Hasan. The four replace Anamul Haque, Mahedi Hasan, Mohammad Naim, and Parvez Hossain Emon on the team.
Mahmudullah has struggled mightily this year in T20Is, scoring just 151 runs in eight innings. He scored only 52 runs with a strike rate of 106.12 during the recent 2022 Asia Cup in the UAE, as Bangladesh was eliminated before the Super Four stage after losing to Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.
The T20I tri-series in New Zealand, which will be contested between October 7 and 14 and will feature the hosts and Pakistan as the third team, will feature the Bangladesh team that was announced for the Men's T20 World Cup.
The Hagley Oval in Christchurch will serve as the venue for each game of the tri-series, which is viewed as a warm-up for the T20 World Cup in Australia.
