Oval Invincibles v Welsh Fire, The Oval

Welsh Fire 121/7 in 100 balls (Duckett 65; Curran 3-29) lost to Oval Invincibles 125/4 in 93 balls (Billings 40*; Neesham 2-23) by 6 wickets with 7 balls to spare. Player of the Match: Sam Billings.

Sam Billings (40* runs off 34 balls) led Oval Invincibles from the front to set up a six-wicket win over Welsh Fire, in Match 16 of the Men’s Hundred in front of 21,279 fans at The Oval.

Chasing 122, Invincibles reached 47/1 in the Powerplay, but were soon reduced to 73/4. Billings then added an unbroken 52-run for the fifth wicket with Laurie Evans (29* off 17) to guide his side reach the target with seven balls to spare.

Jimmy Neesham took 2-33 on his debut match of the competition, while Qais Ahmad (1-12) kept the Fire into the contest with tight bowling before Evans hit successive sixes in the last two balls of the match to take the game away.

Earlier, Sunil Narine (0-19) and Tabraiz Shamsi (1-22) spun a web around the Fire batters to restrict them to 121/7. Ben Duckett (65 off 52) top-scored with more than half of this total. He did not get much support as wickets kept falling in regular intervals from the other end.
