MI Simon Katich, a former Australian batsman, was named as Cape Town's head coach on Thursday. The first SA20 player auction will take place there on September 19. The SA20 is South Africa's top T20 cricket league.

Hashim Amla, a legendary South African batsman, will join the squad as the club's batting coach, MI Cape Town announced in a statement on Thursday. Katich, a former Australia batsman, will serve as the team's head coach.

The organisation noted that Katich has a wealth of knowledge on the field and is known for his logical and clear approach to the game.

Hashim, who is renowned for his dependability, currently owns the record for the fastest 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, and 6000 ODI runs.

James Pamment, a former New Zealand batsman, has been designated the team's fielding coach, and Robin Peterson, a former South African player and local coach, will serve as the general manager.

"They both have a strong MI ethos. While Pamment currently serves as the fielding coach for the Mumbai Indians, a position he will keep, Peterson previously played for the Mumbai Indians. They are in a unique position to introduce MI Cape Town to the Mumbai Indians brand of cricket as a result "the chain claimed.

Reliance Jio Infocomm Chairman Akash M. Ambani remarked, "Simon and Hashim are now a part of the MI Cape Town coaching staff, which makes me glad. We'll work as a team with James and Robin to expand the MI brand of cricket in South Africa and introduce the principles and ideals MI stands for to this cricket-loving nation."

It was an honour for Simon Katich to lead MI Cape Town, he added.

"Being offered the job of head coach at MI Cape Town is a true honour. Building a new team, honing skills, and developing a team culture is always exciting. I'm eager to see MI Cape Town grow into a group that makes the most of local talent and upholds the MI basic values."

MI Cape Town's batting coach, Hashim Amla, said, "I'm ecstatic to start working with MI Cape Town on this assignment. A big thank you to MI's owners, management, and manager for making this possible so easily. According to what they have planned, it will be a fantastic platform that will draw our local talent. Bringing my expertise as a player and mentor I am thrilled to help MI Cape Town players pull the best out of themselves and also make SA cricket stronger".

Before the first season in January/February 2023, MI Cape Town has already signed five players: Kagiso Rabada, Dewald Brevis, Rashid Khan, Sam Curran, and Liam Livingstone.
