Moeen Ali, an all-rounder for England, announced on Wednesday that he is returning to his home county of Warwickshire on a three-year deal after playing for Worcestershire.
Warwickshire was where Moeen started his career, and he remarked, "I'm sad to be leaving Worcestershire after so many years because I've loved every second of it. I owe the club a great deal of gratitude for bringing me here and providing me the opportunity to perform because I've played with some incredible folks.
Moeen declared, "I'm thrilled to return home to Edgbaston," after joining Warwickshire. I grew up not far from the stadium, and Birmingham has always been the focus of my world. I couldn't pass up the opportunity when it offered itself, and I feel like I still have unfinished business there.
In his roughly 350 games played across all forms since joining Worcestershire in September 2006, Moeen amassed over 13,000 runs, over 300 wickets, and three trophies during his tenure at New Road.
Earlier, Worcestershire announced the all-rounder for England had left the team.
Several clubs, including Yorkshire and Warwickshire, were allegedly interested in signing the cricketer, who had resigned from Test cricket last September to extend his white-ball career. There had been a lot of conjecture around the player's county move.
On July 3, he participated in his final Vitality Blast match of the 2022 campaign at New Road against the Notts Outlaws.
Prior to making his England debut and signing a central contract, the 35-year-old Moeen was a mainstay for Worcestershire across all formats.
The club stated that his availability was severely constrained for the Pears during the past three years due to his England obligations and the Covid epidemic.
In his second season with the county, he won his first significant trophy by helping the team win the NatWest Pro40 championship. Red-ball success rapidly ensued after the promotion in 2008, and the team immediately returned to Division One in 2010. In 2017, Moeen also played for the group that earned promotion.
The statement continued, "Moeen will always be remembered as an outstanding leader who has played a tremendous role in the club over his 16 years at New Road."
