It’s incredible that captains coming to India for a Test series have inevitably resorted to an excuse to try and get away from the limelight after embarrassing losses. Faf du Plessis did it, now Mominul Haque blames Bangladesh’s lack of Test matches as another reason for the loss.
“We have to play a lot of Test matches. If you see in the last seven months, we have played only two Tests. We don’t play Tests like other teams. I think it is the main difference [between the two sides],” Mominul said.
While that might be a difference, calling it the major difference between the sides is presumptuous, especially after the proper pasting India handed out to his side.
Mominul, a Test specialist, said that the World Test Championship was a huge opportunity to specialists like him and echoed Russell Domingo’s sentiments about having more such players in the Test team. He also stated it gives Bangladesh a fixed schedule to play more Tests.
“We are happy,” Mominul said. “The WTC is a huge opportunity for those who play Tests. It is a huge competition. If the ICC didn’t arrange this competition, we wouldn’t get many Tests. It will be better for everyone.”
He cited India’s bowling attack was too good for them and that it separated the two teams at Indore.
“The bowling attack was challenging. It would be easier for the rest of the batting line-up if the openers played out the first 15 to 20 overs,” Mominul said.
“India has a threatening attack, but we also failed as a batting unit. They are the No. 1 bowling attack in the world. We couldn’t latch on to our chances also.”
