Sandeep Lamichhane, the captain of Nepal, has been placed on administrative leave by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) after an arrest warrant was issued for him in connection with an alleged instance of coercion of another individual.
On Thursday, it was revealed that a complaint had been made against Lamichhane to a Kathmandu police station. Spinner was playing for the Jamaica Tallawahs team at the time, who were in the West Indies for CPL 2022.
Lamichhane's stint in the CPL will be coming to an end as he has not participated in any of the team's first three games. Tallawahs are reportedly planning to release him, according to a report on ESPNcricinfo.
Lamichhane's suspension would continue up till a thorough probe, according to a statement from acting CAN secretary Prashant Vikram Malla. Additionally, it stated that Lamichhane has been asked to appear before the Kathmandu police, who are looking into the complaint. After a CAN board meeting, the decision to suspend him was made.
In a tweet in reaction, Lamichhane announced that he was "taking leave" from the CPL and going back to Nepal. He emphasised his innocence and declared himself prepared to respond to the "baseless claims."
It further said that Lamichhane had received a summons to appear before the Kathmandu police, who are looking into the complaint. After a CAN board meeting, the decision to suspend him was made.
The most well-known cricket player in Nepal is perhaps 22-year-old Lamichhane. The IPL, Australia's Big Bash League, Bangladesh's Premier League, Lanka's Premier League, and the Caribbean Premier League are just a few of the T20 leagues he has participated in. He is the only one.
He has played for Nepal in 30 ODIs and 44 T20Is since making his international debut in May 2018. Lamichhane, who took over for Gyanendra Malla as Nepal's captain in December 2021, is now the sixth-youngest man to lead an ODI side. Lamichhane is now the third-fastest player to 50 wickets in T20 matches and the second-fastest player to 50 wickets in ODIs.
