The New York Strikers, who enjoyed a successful debut season in the Abu Dhabi T10 last year, announced their latest venture on Wednesday as they revealed the acquisition of a franchise in the thrilling Lanka Premier League. The new team will be known as the Colombo Strikers, joining the ranks of the Kandy Falcons, Jaffna Kings, Galle Gladiators, and Dambulla Aura in the highly anticipated competition.
Owned by Sagar Khanna, the Colombo Strikers will mark his entry into the world of cricket after establishing his credentials as the owner of the Skky Group, a prominent player in various industries such as hospitality, retail stores, and real estate. Khanna first ventured into cricket by co-founding the New York-based cricket franchise, Skky Strikers, before assuming sole ownership of the team. The Skky Strikers achieved remarkable results in multiple tournaments across the United States before expanding their reach to Abu Dhabi and now Sri Lanka.
Expressing his excitement about extending the franchise's operations to Sri Lanka, Khanna said, "We have developed a strong connection with our fans in the US and Abu Dhabi, and we cannot wait to establish the same bond with the cricket-crazy people of Colombo. The cricket culture in the city, combined with our brand of cricket, promises an exhilarating combination. We are eager to bring the indomitable spirit of the Strikers to the cricket fans in Colombo."
The Colombo Strikers will make their debut in the upcoming fourth edition of the Lanka Premier League, scheduled to take place in July and August 2023. As anticipation builds for the tournament, cricket enthusiasts in Colombo can look forward to witnessing the exciting brand of cricket that the Strikers franchise is known for, as they aim to make their mark in the Lanka Premier League.
