New Zealand vs Bangladesh, 2nd Test Day 2 Preview: Hosts on way to mammoth total Image

An unbeaten 186 from Tom Latham has put New Zealand in a commanding position as they closed Day 1 on 349/1. He and Devon Conway (99*) will resume Day 2. Conway has reached fifty at least once in each of the five Tests he has played so far, including 122 in the last Test match.

Latham, meanwhile, is 14 runs away from his second double century. This was his first century in over two years. Just over a month ago, he had scored 95 in Kanpur.

Once Latham and Conway reach their landmarks, they should score as quickly as possible. They may bat for at two sessions before having a crack at Bangladesh in the evening.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, need quick wickets to stall the run rate. The bowlers have not exuded much confidence yet. Ebadot Hossain, the hero of the last game, has leaked over five runs an over.

The New Zealand batters did not allow Mehidy Hasan Miraz to exert any authority by attacking him regularly. For Bangladesh, Shoriful Islam holds the key on Day 2.

Bangladesh are likely to bat mostly in the final session, and they need a sturdy start from their openers.

Betway Fantasy Tips

  • With New Zealand trying to score quickly, it's good to have Ross Taylor – playing his final Test match – in your side.
  • Trent Boult and Tim Southee are must-haves for your team.
  • From Bangladesh, pick Shoriful Islam.
