New Zealand's tour of Australia, scheduled to take place between 24 January and 9 February, ‘has been postponed until further notice, due to the lack of certainty over when the squad will be able to return to New Zealand.’

New Zealand has seen a huge ramp-up in Covid-19 cases at the border. Because of that, both NZC and CA proposed the government to extend the length of the tour so that New Zealand could return home at a time more manageable for the Managed Isolation and Quarantine (MIQ) process. However, the government confirmed that it had ‘no capacity to meet the request’.

The BLACKCAPS tour of Australia, initially scheduled for January 24-February 9, has been postponed until further notice, due to the lack of certainty over when the squad would be able to return to New Zealand 🏏

‘As we now know, the advent of Omicron prompted a change of strategy from the Government, resulting in a hard 10-day mandatory isolation period being imposed on all incoming travellers’, NZC chief executive David White was quoted saying in a statement.

CA and NZC are now discussing when the tour, initially scheduled last year, will be played.

New Zealand were supposed to leave for Australia on 24 January to play ODIs on 30 January in Perth, 2 February in Hobart and 5 February in Sydney. After that, they would play a T20I at Canberra on 8 February.
