At the Providence Stadium on Friday, West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran hit an unbeaten 74 off only 39 balls that included five maximums as the visitors were easily defeated by five wickets to win the T20 International series 2-0. (IST).
The 26-year-old left-hander made his fourth T20I half-century in his previous five innings as he displayed a variety of excellent blows on both sides of the wicket. Pooran finished the match in spectacular fashion with a stunning straight six and held the stance for emphasis after being given a difficult target of 164 in the final game. Both "Player of the Match" and "Man of the Series" awards were given to him.
In a record-breaking 85-run fourth-wicket partnership with Pooran, Kyle Mayers added 55 off 38 balls at the top of the order to turn around the run chase from 43/3 in the seventh over. Mayers was in charge, and he maintained the strong form that earned him the title of "Man of the Series" during the most recent Test series. His time at the crease was highlighted by a breathtaking hook for six.
Pooran quickly reached his sixth T20I half-century in the 15th over with a six over long on after smashing five fours and five sixes. At the start of the 14th over, Mayers, who had two fours and five sixes of his own, had previously reached his first T20I half century off 33 balls.
Later, Pooran praised the group's work on CWI Media. "Making runs and being present to help the team win the game at the end is something I've always wanted to do. I believe that as a team, we are forming well, and we look forward to continuing to serve the West Indian people "said he.
The triumph followed the West Indies' 35-run victory over Dominica's Windsor Park, where the first game had been postponed due to weather.
Now, a three-match ODI series between the two countries will begin on July 10 at the Guyana National Stadium.
