Prithvi Shaw became the first player to score 800 runs in a single season of India’s premier List A tournament, the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The Mumbai captain crossed the big mark while batting against Uttar Pradesh in the final on Sunday. He slammed a quickfire 73 off 39 balls to get Mumbai off to a good start while chasing the target of 313.

Apart from his big knock in the final, 21-year-old Shaw has scored four centuries this season including a 227 not out against Puducherry, the highest individual score in the history of the tournament. In the aftermath of a disappointing show down under, the domestic season has come as a delight to Shaw and his fans.

Earlier on the day, Uttar Pradesh won the toss and elected to bat first in the final at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Madhav Kaushik scored 158 runs in 156 balls with 15 fours and 4 sixes. Samarth Singh (55) and Akshdeep Naik (55) also contributed in Uttar Pradesh putting up a big total in the final.

Mumbai have lifted the Vijay Hazare Trophy twice, while Uttar Pradesh have shared the trophy with Tamil Nadu in 2004-05.
