Prithvi Shaw continued his remarkable comeback to competitive cricket as he slammed a destructive double hundred in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy game against Vadodra in a Group B encounter at Vadodra. He had scored a fine 66 in the first innings and followed it up with a fine 202 that came in just 179 deliveries. His innings was filled with 19 fours and seven sixes, which only gave proof of how he dominated the rival bowlers.

The 20-year old had been suspended by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) this July and was given a backdated eight-month ban for violating doping tests. He had announced his return to domestic cricket with an aggressive 32-ball 50 that came for Mumbai against Assam in India’s domestic T20 competition, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, last month.

After getting his double hundred on Wednesday, Shaw celebrated with a “let the bat do the talking” gesture, and was visibly emotion after getting the feat. Mumbai scored 431 in the first innings, in reply to which Baroda made 307. The visitors have declared at 409 for 4 in their second essay.

Shaw had made a remarkable start in Test cricket when he struck a maiden hundred on debut against West Indies and followed it up with another fifty in the second game. Just when it seemed like he would make his maiden appearance Down Under in the Tests against Australia last December, Shaw was ruled out after suffering an ankle injury. After a destructive IPL 2019, he was expected to continue his form forward in the Indian colours again, but the ban set him back.

In his absence, Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma started opening the innings, with both faring excellently in the chances that have been given to them.
