Ravi Shastri returned positive in a lateral flow test for Covid-19 conducted on Saturday, 4 September. He will not be travelling to The Oval for Day 4 of the fourth Test match.

Shastri is now under self-isolation. Three other members of the support staff – bowling coach Bharat Arun, fielding coach R. Sridhar, and physiotherapist Nitin Patel – have also been isolated as precautionary measure.

All players underwent two RT-PCR tests, in the evening of Day 3, and before the start of Day 4, and returned negative. The match is not taking place in a biosecure bubble, and spectators are allowed in full capacity.

β€˜The members upon returning negative Covid reports were allowed to proceed for Day 4 of the ongoing fourth Test at The Oval,’ read a BCCI statement.

Shastri got his first dose of vaccination in March this year. Earlier, Rishabh Pant tested positive but he recovered well ahead of the first Test match, at Trent Bridge.
