The ICC have named R. Ashwin, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant in their Men’s Test Team of the Year for 2021. However, no Indian was selected in the Men’s ODI XI.
Kane Williamson was named as captain of the team. Under Williamson, New Zealand won the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship by defeating India in Southampton in the final.
Rohit amassed 906 runs at an average of 47.68 in 2021, and scored two hundreds in challenging conditions. Dimuth Karunaratne will partner him.
The XI features has three cricketers from Pakistan, in Fawad Alam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Hasan Ali. Marnus Labuschagne and Joe Root are the only players from their respective nations to feature in the team.

Simi Singh and Paul Stirling are two cricketers from Ireland to make it to the ODI Team. Stirling finished the calendar year as the leading run-getter in ODI, while Simi Singh picked up 19 wickets and scored 280 runs. Babar Azam leads the side which also includes his compatriot Fakhar Zaman.

Heather Knight has been named as the captain of the ICC Women's ODI Team of the Year, where Fatima Sana is the lone Pakistani cricketer. Lizelle Lee, the leading run-getter of 2021, and Tammy Beaumont, who scored 503 runs at over 60, both made the cut. This was the first time both Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami made it to the side.
