India's cricket team witnessed a remarkable surge in the latest ICC Men's Test and T20I rankings after a resounding victory over the West Indies. Skipper Rohit Sharma's brilliant century and Yashasvi Jaiswal's stunning debut performance propelled them to notable positions in the rankings.
In the ICC Men's Test batting rankings released on Wednesday, Rohit Sharma, the 36-year-old veteran, leaped three places to reclaim his spot in the top 10. His impressive knock of 103 runs played a crucial role in India's commanding win over the West Indies in the opening Test of the two-match ICC World Test Championship series in Dominica. This achievement placed him ahead of compatriot Rishabh Pant (11th) and former captain Virat Kohli (14th), making him the highest-ranked Indian batter.
Meanwhile, young sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal made a remarkable entry into the Test batting rankings at 73rd position. The 21-year-old opener dazzled the cricket world with an outstanding innings of 171 runs from 387 deliveries against the West Indies in his debut Test match. Jaiswal's remarkable performance earned him the Player of the Match accolade and made him the owner of the third-highest score by an India opener on debut and the highest away from home.
In the bowling chart, veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin extended his dominance at the top, thanks to his exceptional 12-wicket haul in the first Test against the West Indies. Ashwin's stellar performance led to a significant improvement of 24 rating points, increasing his lead over Australia's captain Pat Cummins to 56 points.
Fellow India spinner Ravindra Jadeja also witnessed a rise, climbing three places to secure the seventh position overall on the bowler rankings.
Moving on to the T20I rankings, Bangladesh's home series against Afghanistan resulted in notable changes. Despite taking just one wicket during the two-match series, star spinner Rashid Khan maintained his position at the top of the list for bowlers.
Bangladesh's experienced all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan made a strong comeback, climbing eight places on the T20I bowler rankings to tie for the 16th position with Pakistan's pacer Shaeen Afridi. Additionally, fellow left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed climbed an impressive 17 spots to share the 33rd position following his impressive displays with the ball.
