Sachin Tendulkar, a Bharat Ratna, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) office-bearers will congratulate the Indian U19 women's cricket team on their victory in the inaugural ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa in Ahmedabad on Wednesday (February 1).
Shafali Verma and co. bowled out England for 68 at the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom on Sunday, thanks to a superb bowling performance and some outstanding fielding.
Fast bowler Titas Sadhu, off-spinner Archana Devi, and leg-spinner Parshavi Chopra were all accurate with their line and length, picking up two wickets each. Shafali, Mannat Kashyap, and Sonam Yadav each took a wicket in a dominant bowling performance.
The U19 women's team will be honoured at 6:30 p.m. IST, just before the start of the third and final T20I match against New Zealand.
"It is with great pleasure that I share that Bharat Ratna Shri @sachin rt and @BCCI Office Bearers will felicitate the victorious India U19 team on February 1st at 6:30 PM IST in Narendra Modi Stadium," BCCI secretary Jay Shah tweeted on Monday.
"The young cricketers have made India proud, and we will recognise their accomplishments," Jay Shah said.
On Sunday, Shah announced a cash prize of INR 5 crore for the U19 women's cricket team and support staff following their seven-wicket victory over England.
"Congratulations to the India U19 team on winning the #U19T20WorldCup. This is an incredible accomplishment, and our young cricketers have done the country proud. The fact that the young players were unafraid of the big occasion speaks volumes about their steely personalities and temperament."
Shah also invited the India U19 women's team to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to join in the celebrations before the third T20I between India and New Zealand on Wednesday.
