South Africa announced their men's squad for the upcoming one-day international series against England, which begins on January 27.
Temba Bavuma will captain the 16-man squad for the three-match ODI series. These one-day internationals are part of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League 2020-23, which includes qualification points for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023.
Sisanda Magala and Marco Jansen return to the ODI squad, looking to add to the pace battery that includes Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, and Wayne Parnell.
South Africa will try to forget their recent poor performances, which saw them fail to deliver in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup before being routed 0-3 in the Test series in Australia.
Shukri Conrad, the Proteas' newly appointed red-ball coach, will oversee this series. He will collaborate with the new white-ball coach, Rob Walter, whose tenure begins on February 1, 2023.
"The depth of this squad, with a mix of youth and experience, has piqued the selection panel's interest. We are confident that this group of players will help us advance to the ICC Men's World Cup in India later this year "Convenor of Selectors Victor Mpitsang stated.
"We are also pleased with the inclusion of Sisanda and the commitment he has shown to meet the fitness standards required for national selection.
The three-match series against England will kickstart our international home season following months on the road, and we would like to wish Temba and Shukri well in what will no doubt be an exciting series against quality opposition," he added.
