Bangladesh slumped to 98/4 after bowling out South Africa to 367 on Day 2 of the first Test match, at Kingsmead in Durban. Simon Harmer, playing his first Test since 2015, remained unbeaten on 38 before accounting for all four Bangladesh wickets.

South Africa lost Kyle Varreyne early in the morning session, leg-before to Khaled Ahmed. Wiaan Mulder fell first, while Temba Bavuma missed out on his century by seven runs. For Bangladesh, Khaled took 4-92 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz 3-94.

Harmer then got Shadman Islam early, but Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Najmul Hossain Shanto added 65 for the second wicket before the latter fell for 38. Mahmudul is on 44, and will have an important role to play if Bangladesh are to reach close to South Africa's first-innings total. They currently trail by 269. With Yasir Ali and Liton Das yet to come, avoiding the follow-on should not be an issue.

The fast bowlers have sent down only nine overs due to bad light. Duanne Olivier and Lizaad Williams are likely to begin the attack, but Dean Elgar is unlikely to take much time to unleash the spin duo of Harmer and Keshav Maharaj.
