Sri Lanka beat India for the first time in a T20I on home soil, at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium, by seven wickets. Opting to bat, India could put up a mere 138/5; Sri Lanka took only 17 overs to finish the match. Despite the win, however, India won the series 2-1.
Sri Lanka's chase was led by captain Chamari Athapaththu, who remained unbeaten on a 48-ball 80, an innings that included 14 fours and a six. Athapaththu added 77 for the third wicket with Nilakshi de Silva (30 in 28 balls) to set up the chase. Renuka Singh (4-0-27-1) and Radha Yadav (4-0-41-1) were the only Indian bowlers to take wickets.
Earlier, India lost their way in the Powerplay overs, meandering to 37/1 against Sugandika Kumari (4-0-28-1), Ama Kanchana (4-0-22-1), and Oshadi Ranasinghe (3-0-13-1). Smriti Mandhana and S. Meghana scored 22 apiece, but took 21 and 26 balls for that. Harmanpreet Kaur (39* in 33 balls) and Jemimah Rodrigues (33 in 30) saved their onslaught for too late, and it was only Pooja Vastrakar's 6-ball unbeaten 13 that took them to a fighting total.
