Ben Stokes, captain of the England Test team, hasn't ruled out playing in the 50-over World Cup in India in 2019 after retiring from one-day internationals.

Recent calls for Stokes to come out of retirement as England looks to defend the title they won at home in 2019 have been sparked by the all-pivotal rounder's involvement in Jos Buttler's team winning the T20 World Cup in Australia. At Lord's in 2019, Stokes assisted England in winning the 50-over World Cup.

He had scored an unbeaten 84 in the 2019 50-over World Cup final at Lord's, helping England win by defeating New Zealand on the basis of boundaries after the game was tied.

Due to the stress of playing all three formats, Stokes announced his retirement from one-day international cricket in July of this year. Rob Key, the head of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), reportedly tried to convince Stokes to stay in the game, but Stokes reportedly walked away.

Stokes, however, admitted that he didn't know "how I might feel" about the possibility of defending the title that he helped win in dramatic fashion at Lord's in 2019, according to the Daily Mail, after a stirring performance in the T20 World Cup in Australia.

Stokes was cited as stating, "Keysy (Rob Key) pulled me to the side in the UAE (during practise prior to the Test series against Pakistan), and as soon as he shouted 50-over World Cup, I simply walked away."

"The future? Being here right now, all I can think about is this series (in Pakistan). It is nonetheless one of those things. Who knows how I might feel at the time about a (50-over) World Cup. A World Cup trip is an incredible opportunity to represent your nation. However, right now I'm not even considering that "Stokes stated.
