The quick bowler, Stuart Broad of England joined longtime pace bowling partner James Anderson, who was on the field to welcome him in celebration, as the only players to collect 100 Test wickets at Lord's.
The 36-year-old Broad dismissed Kyle Verreynne on the second day of the first Test against South Africa with an edge behind to Ben Foakes, becoming the second player to capture 100 Test wickets at the ground.
However, the Proteas quickly gained control of the game by dismissing the hosts for a pitiful 165 in 45 overs just before lunch on Day 2 and then scoring 289/7 for a 124-run lead.
In addition to his partner and the Sri Lankan duo of Muttiah Muralitharan and Rangana Herath, Broad joins an elite club as the fourth player to capture 100 Test wickets at a single location. According to ICC, Muralitharan accomplished the feat at three locations: Galle, Kandy, and the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo.
The accomplishment is just another one for Broad, who is closing in on Glenn McGrath's fifth place on the all-time list of Test wicket-takers. With 553 kills, Broad is 10 kills short of his Australian adversary and may well overtake him by the end of the current series.
Once surpassing the Australian, Anderson (658 scalps to date) would be the only bowler standing between Broad and the top spot in terms of quick bowlers.
