The 2021 edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup has been shifted from India to Oman and the UAE. The tournament will kick off just a couple of days after the IPL 2021 final, as per an ESPNCricinfo report.

The tournament is slated to commence on 17 October, and the final will be played on 14 November. The remaining matches of the IPL 2021 has also been shifted to the UAE.

The players from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, engaged in the IPL 2021, may have to leave early as both teams will be playing the Round 1 of the ICC T20 World Cup. These matches are likely to be played in Oman.

Eight teams across two groups will feature in this round. Apart from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the other six teams are Ireland, Papua New Guinea, Namibia, Netherlands, Scotland and Oman. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super 12s.

The Super 12s are likely to start from 24 October. This will include India, England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Afghanistan and four teams from the Round 1.

Players from these teams engaged in the IPL 2021 will have ample time to prepare for the Super 12s.

Though the T20 World Cup will take place in the UAE and Oman, India will still keep the hosting rights, as per the ICC.
