With England one up in the series, Australia wanted revenge in the third Test match, in Perth. They gained it in some style.

England won the toss and chose to field. At 137/6, Australia were in trouble, until Mitchell Johnson scored 62 to help them to 268.

And then Johnson took 6-38 will the ball, as England were bowled out for just 187.

When Australia batted again, Shane Watson scored 95 and Michael Hussey 116, helping them reach 309.

Set 391, England were dismissed for just 123, Ryan Harris claiming 6-47. Australia had won by 267 runs.

The jubilation of home supporters lasted just as long as the first innings of the fourth Test match, in Melbourne.

That was the time England won the toss and fielded again, this time dismissing Australia for just 98, Chris Tremlett taking 4-26 and James Anderson 4-44.

England then made 513 to bat Australia out of the game. Jonathan Trott led the way with 168, but there were also big scores from Matt Prior (85), Alastair Cook (82), and Andrew Strauss (69).

Australia needed 415 just to make England bat again. But, in the event, despite half centuries from Watson and Brad Haddin, the best they could manage was 258, Tim Bresnan taking 4-50.

England had won by an innings and 157 runs.

With the Ashes retained, England could now focus on winning the series, which they did in the fifth Test, in Sydney.

This time Australia batted after winning the toss and made 280, again owing a debt of thanks to Johnson who scored 53, while Anderson took 4-66.

Cook and Strauss then gave England a strong start with an opening stand of 99. When Struss fell for 60, Cook went on to make 189. And then Ian Bell and Prior both reached three figures as well, as England racked up 644.

Australia again needed to clear a substantial first-innings deficit just to make England bat once more. And, for the second successive match, they were unable to manage it.

Steven Smith top-scored for them with an unbeaten 54, but Anderson and Tremlett took three wickets each as they were all out for 281.

England had won by an innings and 53 runs to clinch the series by three matches to one.
