Australia finished Day 3 on 45/1 after bowling out England for 236. Dawid Malan and Joe Root added 138 for the third wicket after England were left reeling at 12/2. Joe Root's dismissal then triggered a collapse, and England lost their last eight wickets for just 86. Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon shared seven wickets, while Cam Green dismissed Root for the second time in a row.

Australia are currently ahead by 282 runs, with Marcus Harris and nightwatch Michael Neser at the crease. Playing for his spot, it is a golden spot for Harris to get some run under his belt against a weary pace attack.

The English pace attack has been far from threatening. Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes went over four an over in the first innings. England might have already been regretting their decision to omit Jack Leach, given how Nathan Lyon troubled the English batters with turn and bounce.

With the English pacers unable to get much help from the surface, the off spin of Joe Root will be crucial for them. Even in the first innings, Root bowled 20 overs.

The first target for the tourists will be to get rid of Michael Nesser. With two days remaining in the game, Australia will aim to bat for the first two sessions on Day 4 and stretch the lead to 450.
