The three-match ODI series between the United States of America and Ireland was cancelled due to Covid-19 related concerns.
‘The decision has been a difficult one to make, but clearly the right outcome from a player and staff health and safety perspective. While there are no positive Covid results amongst the Irish players, we have had two support staff test positive and a number of travel partners and family members also testing positive," Richard Holdsworth, Cricket Ireland's High Performance Director, confirmed the series cancellation in a media release.
After cancelling the first ODI match due to a positive Covid-19 test among the ICC officiating crew, the second match was initially postponed 24 hours after a member of Ireland's support staff and a member of the USA's playing team tested positive for the virus. However, a majority of them tested negative, but yet, two boards mutually decided not to go ahead.
Ireland were the first Full Member Men to tour the USA. They played two T20Is before the ODI postponement, which ended 1-1.
Ireland are still scheduled to depart on 31 December for Jamaica to play three ODIs and one T20I against West Indies. A Cricket Ireland official told ESPNCricinfo, ‘The positives on the staff will have to stay back, but with another PCR pre-travel pending, the main group will still travel as planned’.
