KKR’s mystery spinner, Varun Chakravarthy has failed fitness Test for the second time ahead of the India-England T20 series. The 29-year old has been ruled out of the T20 series.
“Varun Chakravarthy was selected because he recovered from his shoulder injury that ruled him out of the Australia series. He did his rehab at the NCA and started throwing normally.”
“However, he has failed to clear the YoYo test mark stipulated for a 2 km run at least twice,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Chakravarthy was under a 12 week rehab during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, recuperating from a shoulder injury. The Karnataka based leg-spinner hasn’t played a single game in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as well.
“If a player is generally not maintaining the standards set by this Indian team, his bowling alone can’t be a criteria for selection,” said the source.
It is learnt that Rahul Chahar will be inducted in the squad as he is already in the bio-bubble since the start of the Test series. Left-arm pace sensation, T Natarajan is also battling against time to get fit ahead of the series. The yorker specialist is yet to join the squad in Ahmedabad due to an apparent shoulder niggle.
Natarajan was the leading wicket taker in the three match T20 series in Australia last year.
