Deandra Dottin, a great all-rounder for the West Indies, announced her retirement from international competition on Monday. The veteran of 126 WT20Is and 143 WODIs cited worries about team culture for her unexpected change of heart.

The 31-year-old all-rounder, who is in Birmingham with the Barbados team for the Commonwealth Games, made the revelation on social media.

Dottin blamed her decision on organisational challenges in a message she sent to Cricket West Indies (CWI).

However, the player expressed her excitement about playing domestic cricket all over the world.

"I'd want to thank everyone for their love and support throughout the past 14 years that I've played cricket for the West Indies. I'm excited to play domestic cricket all around the world "Dottin stated on Twitter.

She also published a lengthy statement that said, "With effect from July 1, 2022, please accept this letter as my official resignation from the senior women's West Indies squad. I've given this announcement a lot of thought because I've always had a passion for cricket. However, one must take some time to reevaluate their devotion once the fire has burned out "the message said.

"Throughout my cricket career, I have had a lot of challenges that I have had to overcome. But I haven't been able to grow and rekindle my passion in the current setting and team dynamics.

"I am grateful for the possibilities provided to me and have given this decision some thought. It has been an honour to represent the West Indies and play for them. I've put in my best training efforts and improved as a player physically, psychologically, and emotionally during my 14 years of competition. This mix of development has made it easier for me to consider what matters to me most in life. I recognise that I am no longer able to adhere to team culture and atmosphere because it has compromised my capacity to function wonderfully, but I do not regret this "she added.

Dottin has participated in over 260 international games in both white-ball formats, amassing over 6,000 runs and over 130 wickets.

The all-rounder was at her best during the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in New Zealand earlier this year. She displayed steely nerves to end the tournament opener with the ball against the hosts before making one of the greatest catches in any major international competition to dismiss Lauren Winfield-Hill with a full stretch dive to her left.

According to ICC, the right-hander retires as the second-highest run scorer for the West Indies in women's ODIs and T20Is and ranks fourth on the team's list of wicket-takers in the shorter format.

Dottin will probably continue to compete at the Commonwealth Games, as the Caribbean team is scheduled to play India in a crucial group match on Wednesday.
