West Indies vs Bangladesh 1st Test Day 1: Hosts on top after bowling out tourists for 103 Image

After bowling out Bangladesh for 103, West Indies finished Day 1 of the first Test match, in North Sound, on 95/1. Having faced 149 balls, captain Kraigg Brathwaite is still there, on 42, along with Nkrumah Bonner, on 12. With the likes of Jermaine Blackwood, Kyle Mayers, and Joshua Da Silva to follow, West Indies should be on course for a big lead if they see off the second morning.

Brathwaite and John Campbell began cautiously, taking 25.1 overs to put on 44 runs before Mustafizur Rahman found the latter's inside edge. Ebadot Hossain then got one to move away to find Raymon Reifer's edge, but that was all the success Bangladesh enjoyed on the first day.

Earlier, Bangladesh ran into trouble against Kemar Roach (2-21) and Jayden Seales (3-33) after Brathwaite asked them to bat. None of the first three Bangladeshis to be dismissed – Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mominul Haque – managed to open their account. Tamim Iqbal (29) and Litton Das (12) added 27. Then Alzarri Joseph (3-33) got Tamim, and Mayers (2-10), in the next over, got both Das and Nurul Hasan, leaving Bangladesh in tatters, at 45/6.

Bangladesh added only another 58, of which captain Shakib Al Hasan got 51 on his own, off 67 balls. Barring Shakib, Tamim, and Das, none of the Bangladeshis managed to reach even four, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Ebadot Hossain were the only ones to survive more than 10 balls.

Brief scores

Bangladesh 103 (Shakib Al Hasan 51; Jayden Seales 3-33, Alzarri Joseph 3-33) lead West Indies 95/2 (Kraigg Brathwaite 42*; Mustafizur Rahman 1-10) by 8 runs.
