West Indies beat Ireland by 24 runs in the first ODI at Sabina Park. They rode on debutant Shamarh Brooks' 93 and Kieron Pollard's 69 to post 269 before bowling out Ireland for 245. Brooks was adjudged Player of the Match.

Put in to bat, West Indies did not have a great start, losing four wickets inside 20 overs. Mark Adair and Curtis Campher took a wicket apiece and Andy McBrine two. 

Brooks and Pollard then steadied the innings with a 155-run stand for the fifth wicket. Pollard struck four fours and as many sixes in his 66-ball 69 before falling to Craig Young. Mark Adair then had Brooks leg-before.

For Ireland, Adair and Young claimed three wickets each, while McBrine finished with two.

Ireland got off to a quick start despite losing William Porterfield in the second over. Andy Balbirnie and McBrine added 64 for the second wicket before the latter retired hurt on 34. Tector joined Balbirnie and scored 53 in 68 balls.

Balbirnie scored 71 off 94 before holing out to Shai Hope off Romario Shepherd. Tector fell to Odean Smith, and the rest of the batting crumbled under pressure. Alzarri Joseph and Shepherd took three wickets apiece.
