Day 2 of the second Test between West Indies and Pakistan was washed out in Sabina Park. Not a single ball was possible due to torrential rain and a wet outfield.

The on-field umpires were forced to take early lunch after it began to rain before the scheduled start and drizzled relentlessly. Although the weather cleared during the break, a wet outfield kept the ground staff busy before the umpires decided on the first inspection.

But the rain returned before the inspection took place, and continued for more than two hours. Once the rain stopped after tea, the mopping resumed. Unfortunately, despite sponges being used on the wet patches, the umpires called off the play at 4.05 PM local time. The umpires decided to abandon the day after once they spotted large patches in the bowlers’ run-up.

Pakistan will resume Day 3 on 212/4, with Mohammad Rizwan (22*) and Faheem Ashraf (23*) in middle. The action will begin half an hour earlier than the regular start, with 98 overs of play scheduled.

Brief scores: Pakistan 212/4 (Fawad Alam 76*; Kemar Roach 3-49) vs West Indies.
